Sagar karan Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 There is confusion regarding to this eqn! As given, E=E°-RT/nFIn[M]/[Mⁿ+]----that's ok. But in Daniel cell the Nernst eqn for, Zn(s)|Zn2+(aq) electrode is E=E°+RT/2FIn[Zn2+]---- +ve sign has been put and the molar concentration ratio taken [Zn2+]/1.Why&How?
salahzayed Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Hello sagar. This so because [Zn] is an element and is not counted in the conc. Eq. Now the positive sign is due to the reverse of the fraction since [Zn2+] should appear in the numerator. I hope I made it clear. Sorry in denominator.
