alt_f13 Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 If I put it any plainer, ... stuff would happen. Ahem, anyway, I think those buttons have to go. I could design some if you like. Only take a few days. You know, the ones for reply, edit etc. They just don't fit. Everything else is peachy, but the buttons are an eyesore. [edit] They just aren't as hard edge as the rest of the site. The buttons themselves are fine alone, but don't fit with the decore.
5614 Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 well i spose i've got used to it... at the same time if you are offering to design a new one it shouldn't be that hard, you just edit the image hosted at http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/images/buttons/reply.gif so Blike/Sayo should agree... make one and put a poll up asking: "which is better? current (see above) or new (see attached imaged)" and see what happens at the polls.
alt_f13 Posted March 8, 2005 Author Posted March 8, 2005 what do you think of these? The small ones might be too big, and would be a pain to change b/c I hate dealing with the primitive gif with its bloody single transparency color stuff.
alt_f13 Posted March 8, 2005 Author Posted March 8, 2005 I can rework the small ones if need be, then put it to the public? [edit] Actually, I think I can make them better. If you like where they are going let me know. Got a problem with them, let me know as well. I really want to get rid of the buttons that are there.
5614 Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 Yeah, I spose its a bit more modern and it should match everything... I suggest a poll though, and it can be linked to the homepage and stuff so everyone will see it.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 I love them! Try the New Topic button and so on... I think they definitely look better than the default style. One suggestion: In the Quote button, don't have it in quotation marks... just leave it by itself. The quotation marks are kind of silly.
Nevermore Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 They're great! Although, how about red speed lines coming off the email evvolope?
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 I'd wait on that--he hasn't made a New Topic button and so on. I'd wait until it was all complete.
alt_f13 Posted March 9, 2005 Author Posted March 9, 2005 Thanks. What does everyone else think about the quotes in "Quote"? I thought they were hillarious. I'll do "New Thread" and an alternative set that you(pl) can take a look at. ...Is there an english plural for "you," aside from "yous guys?" Cuz yous guys don't always know who's being addressed. Silly English. [edit] I tried the speed line thing, but I can't get it to work. [edit] Nevermind, I'm too damn busy (sleepy) to do another set. I'll edit these if need be.
Nevermore Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 I agree that the qoutation mars could be done without.
blike Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 The ones inside the post (edit post, quote, and quick reply) would look better a bit smaller though. You want me to shrink them or do you want to take care of it?
blike Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Another image that I can't stand is and Thanks for doing this! I'll probably end up resizing the other buttons before you get a chance to
ecoli Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 ...Is there an english plural for "you' date='" aside from "yous guys?" Cuz yous guys don't always know who's being addressed. Silly English. [/quote'] "You" can be used as singular or plural.
alt_f13 Posted March 9, 2005 Author Posted March 9, 2005 "You" can be used as singular or plural. Obviously, my thinking was backwards. I was speaking along the lines of "ye," like "ye olde coffee shop," or "ye be warned," from back in the day You was originaly plural I think. Shizzle's changed. Another image that I can't stand is [pic'] and [pic] I'll try and think of something. Ideas welcome. :barf: Talk to the cursor. The smiley ain't listnen.
Sayonara Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Obviously, my thinking was backwards. I was speaking along the lines of "ye," like "ye olde coffee shop," or "ye be warned," from back in the day "ye" is actually a different way of writing "the". "Th" was symbolised by a character that is indistinguishable from the modern "y".
5614 Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 With the edit and scissors that just reminds me too much of cut feature in windows, but then I don't have a better idea, just thought I'd say it anyway!
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 I also think that along with new buttons, it would be nice if the style could be tweaked a bit. The generic one gets kind of boring after a while, and I think it would be nice if you tweaked it a bit to make it nicer.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 They're back to the default now. Although I apparently missed it when Blike had changed them to alt_f13's. I guess it's because he hasn't completed all of them yet.
