CountDrugula Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Hey guys,I'm an artist based in Australia and am needing some advice with the Chladni experiment which I'm going to be incorporating into a sculpture. Is this suitable for the vibration generator? http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Vibration-generator_270849507.htmlAnd which signal generator is best? I basically need it to be able to reach the more complex patterns in the sand.http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1HZ-500KHz-DDS-Function-Signal-Generator-Module-Sine-Triangle-Square-Wave-dme-/151379109702?http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/single-channel-DDS-signal-source-function-generator-5MHz-frequency-counter-/261517827629?pt=AU_B_I_Electrical_Test_Equipment&hash=item3ce3ad5e2d&_uhb=1Any help would be greatly appreciated! Kind regards,Patrick
swansont Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 You might also need an amplifier. I didn't see any technical specifications that tell you if the output of the signal generators is sufficient for the vibrator. Note that you'll also need a power supply for the function generator.

I was wondering if you could be more specific? I'm not very knowledgeable with this stuff. If you forget about the first link of the signal generators and look at this one: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1HZ-500KHz-DDS-Function-Signal-Generator-Module-Sine-Triangle-Square-Wave-dme-/151379109702? Maximum output amplitude:¡Ó 10Vpp (no-load) Output impedance :50£[¡Ó10% Dc bias: ¡Ó 10V (no-load) Display: LCD1602 Resolution :1 Hz Power supply: DC 3.5-10V Are you mentioning the need for a power supply for the signal/function generator because a normal power supply will not be enough? Hope you can help me out some more. Thanks for the reply
swansont Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 The device you are powering also has requirements, which aren't listed. You need to match those specs with what the signal generator can provide.

hoola Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 try a conventional heavy full range speaker, or better yet, a sub-woofer in a strong cabinet. That would deliver a larger SPL, or sound pressure, but the range would be more limited. What frequencies are you interested in doing the stimulation with? I don't know the chaladni experiment, but I presume it is stimulating grains of sand into resonant patterns...is that correct?
