Sciguy280
I will be attending college soon and I just figured out my passion.I know what I want to study but I'm unsure of the exact specific area I want to study. My Junior College offers everything that falls under GeneticEngineering I am interested in genetic engineering. I would like to learn about manipulating DNA and engineering existing DNA. Cloning is also interesting. What degree would best suit me to pursue?Would a genetics degree teach me the most about genetic engineering?
CharonY
The curriculum will vary from school to school, so it is hard to make a specific recommendation. The keywords are typically molecular biology, genetics, cell and/or microbio, biotech and variations thereof. You have to know that the things that you mentioned are rather basic tools rather than research directions per se. So you will have to develop interests around these topics (e.g. uses in plant biology, fermentation technologies etc.).

I'd like a career under something that falls under Genetic Engineering>Genetics I'm really interested in DNA modification. But I'm kind of confused on what to take in college. I was looking into Genetics>Geneticist and it seemed like it was more medical. I think what I'm looking for falls under more Biotechnology maybe? I'm really confused. sciencem
If you are interested to help some families and peoples to fight with critical disease and how they can use biotechnology to pharmaceuticals and other items are to be produced, then a degree in genetics might be for you. Genetic engineering, also known as transformation, by physically removing a gene from one organism to another, and provide them the ability to control the characteristic encoded by said gene. It's like a single recipe from a cookbook and put it in another cookbook.
chadn737
Major in anything related to molecular biology or genetics. The exact title doesn't matter. It would be easy to go into genetic engineering with a Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, etc degree.
