saleha noor Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I want to have clear concept about hybrid computers , i have serched alot this topic on internet but i am not getting clear idea about this. can any body guide me what are hybrid computers?? how they differ from other types of computers?? What is their importance ?? applications??
Strange Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Hybrid computers combine digital computing and analog computing. I have designed and worked with many different types of computers for more than 40 years and have never come across one. If they are used, I assume they are in very specialised fields.
saleha noor Posted September 1, 2014 Author Posted September 1, 2014 i need data on that can you provide data about them.. i just want to know what they are ???? and what their functionality is??
Strange Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 (edited) Sorry, that's all I know. As I say, I have heard of the concept but never encountered or even seen any details of one. A couple of very old reports: http://www.analogmuseum.org/library/simstar_brochure.pdf http://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/handle/2027.42/68553/10.1177_003754976600600408.pdf?sequence=2 http://www.computer.org/csdl/proceedings/afips/1961/5058/00/50580299.pdf Edited September 1, 2014 by Strange
fiveworlds Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 (edited) Quote how they differ from other types of computers?? Ages ago an analog computer could solve mathematical equations far faster than a digital computer. This isn't really true anymore. It also has certain advantages an analog-digital computer could be put in a nuclear bomb and it would still run if hit by an emp. You would have an analog countdown timer to detonation ie a set of gears and a digital computer taking a readout of how long you have until the bomb goes boom. They are also used in nuclear reactors and nuclear launch facilities. Edited September 1, 2014 by fiveworlds
