ydoaPs Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 As many of you know, it was the case that I was going to be a daddy. Well, that time has come! It's time to show off your kids. My son is now two days old. He was born on September 8 at 4:48pm and he weighs in at 1lb 13oz. He made it to one day before 28 weeks before he had to come out. If you've got kids, how many do you have? Any advice/tips/tricks? 13
Moontanman Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Congratulations dude! I hope momma and baby are doing well. I miss having my boys, raising children is the most satisfying thing I have ever done, I am sure it will be for you as well! 3
studiot Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 (edited) Well this shows how wrong today's thread saying we were a stuffy load of has-beens is. Congratulations mate. +1 Suggestions? When I first went to University there was a lad there called Martin, who had something in stone jars he was drinking. What's that? Martin we asked. After some arm twisting we got a sip. It was the nicest drink I have ever tasted. It turned out that his family had a tradition of making marrow rum. The father would make the rum and lay it down for the son to drink and lay down more for his son in turn.... This had apparently been going on for generations. So get started mate. Phi for All Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Congratulations to ydoaPs, and belated birthday to mdoaPs! You gotta love a guy who can't wait to get started. Tips: Babies start out small and helpless so you can learn how to wrangle them before they get big and mobile. Your learning curve matches their development perfectly, so don't worry about how "new" this all is. At least until they learn to crawl. Then all bets are off, and you spend the next two years getting whiplash from trying to figure out where they ran off to. Carry at least three band-aids in your wallet at all times for the next ten years. If your son doesn't need them, his friends will. There are no "tricks" when it comes to babies. Just as soon as you think you have a certain behavior figured out, the baby will change the behavior. I must have discovered a hundred "tricks" for getting my daughter to fall asleep, and they all worked well, for about three days each. 3
Ophiolite Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 The key thing to remember is that you are the end product of over three billion years of successful parenting. It is statistically improbable that you will be the first one to screw it up in all that time. 3
swansont Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Congrats! Hope everyone is doing well. 2
imatfaal Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 many congratulations - lovely pictures. best wishes to mom and babe 2

CaptainPanic Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 I don't know tips & tricks, because I don't have kids. But I can still say: Congrats, also to the mom! w0000000t!!! We'll be seeing the ydoaPsjr here in a few years! (Make sure to announce the moment, so we don't ban the both of you as sockpuppets). 3
iNow Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 he weighs in at 1lb 13oz. He made it to one day before 28 weeks before he had to come out.Just like his dad, he had to be ahead of the curve and be there faster than most mere mortals. What a little show-off. . 4
MigL Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 Congratulations ! Finally, an OP that makes everyone smile. 2
ydoaPs Posted September 15, 2014 Author Posted September 15, 2014 Thanks for all the well-wishes and sorry I've taken so long to reply. It's been kind of up and down. He's been getting better and getting worse and getting better and so on, though the bouts of getting better are longer now and more better than they were. He went from the doctor telling us on Thursday that there's nothing more they can do and that we should spend as much time with him as we can because they didn't think he'd make it through the night to doing so well he's off all of his meds and almost off of the first ventilator. So, basically, he's starting the trolling early. Like father, like son, I guess. Baby gift: I guess I am obligated to acquire a pogo stick now, aren't I?

Remember when you used to sleep? I guess I am obligated to acquire a pogo stick now, aren't I? Like your father, and his father before him. 2
zapatos Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 (edited) Congratulations! A very exciting time. My only advice is to take the advice you get from everyone with a grain of salt. Remember that most advice is anecdotal. Edited September 15, 2014 by zapatos 2
michel123456 Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 My little girl was born exactly yesterday. I still feel her weight on my shoulder. I still measure her smaller than my forearm. Today she is 22 years old. She is taller than me.Time is very strange thing. Kiss and hug your baby as much as possible. 4
Gilded Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 When I first encountered ydoaPs on the internet something like 10 years ago it was my immediate impression that he was the kind of responsible and mature person that would make a great father. Well okay that's a lie but good thing you waited for a while. Congratulations and good luck! 3

ewmon Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Congratulations Mr/Ms ydoaPs, and best wishes for your little one! Even so small, they are born with a lot of fight in them. Remember the "miracle babies" of the Mexico City earthquake. I can't believe it's been almost 30 years! Moontanman expressed my sentiments exactly. Simply love them, love them, love them! When I saw that my hand is almost the same size as the hand in photo #4, I realized that ydoaPs Jr is shown almost actual size on my screen! Wow! 1
Nicholas Kang Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Mr.ydoaPs Jr, although we haven't had any conversations before, I would still say congratulations. Teaching a child isn't as simple as it seems to be. Making your child obedient is even harder. But I know the almighty ydoaPs Jr is ready for it and I know you will succeed. Who knows one day your child will be Einstein. Congratulations! 1
CharonY Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Congrats and all the best wishes for the lil one! 1
Hendrick Laursen Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Congrats! What a cutie! Though being father is a great joy, I still have at least 10 years to be a father, Be a good father, We won't envy you! Zillions of Regards
ydoaPs Posted December 6, 2014 Author Posted December 6, 2014 He was supposed to be born sometime this week, but he was born on September 8. That made him very small, so he is unfortunately still in the hospital working on his lungs. I hate to ask for money, but the NICU is very expensive. If anyone feels like helping out with this gofundme, I'd be eternally grateful. 2
