MulderMan Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 Yesterday my brother was asking about what an organism is as he started to learn about microorganisms in school. He kept thinking an organism had to be tiny e.g microbes, so instead of describing humans as organisms i said macroorgansims. Just wondered if a macroorganisms is a real word or just me mixing words about? Thanks.
NMajik Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 No, I'm pretty sure that you are just mixing words around. Just out of intrest though, did you mean multicellular organisms?
Guest droid Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Just out of intrest though' date=' did you mean multicellular organisms?[/quote'] i thought only girls had those? wokka wokka. sorry, I couldn't resist.
Skye Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Just wondered if a macroorganisms is a real word? Yes.
Ophiolite Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Google produces over 3000 hits, including this link to a professional group dedicated to macroorganisms! http://www.ibma.ch/pg_macroorganisms/
MulderMan Posted March 12, 2005 Author Posted March 12, 2005 so macroorganisms are basically insects, and humans are just organsims. serves me right for mixing words...
Skye Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Macroorganisms are any organisms visible to the naked eye.
MulderMan Posted March 12, 2005 Author Posted March 12, 2005 and humans are organsims visible to the naked eye, so that makes me right!
malagen Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 is that mean marcoorganism = multicellular organism?
Skye Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 More or less, although some single celled organisms can be just seen with your naked eye.
