taufiqhaque93
Regeneration like Wolverine may be on the verge of being VERY possible! What Is DARPA? Before going on to the project itself, let us look over at DARPA – Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Formed in 1958, they have been funding many major technological developments for this long time. Though their main aim is to help the military sector of USA, their projects have helped the whole world too. Recently, the American government has invested $73.8 million in a biotechnology research program. This allowed DARPA and its researchers are going to carry on with research. Endy0816
We should engineer one of our organs to continually regenerate, that way we could give pieces of it away to those in need.

Tzurain
We can already regenerate. However, this regeneration may not be fast enough for some.Seems interesting, but I suspect that there will be those that misuse this kind of technology for darker, and eviller purposes.(Dramatic)
John Cuthber
We should engineer one of our organs to continually regenerate, that way we could give pieces of it away to those in need. "We should engineer one of our organs to continually regenerate" No problem: it's called cancer. "that way we could give pieces of it away to those in need." We do, for example, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HeLa
Endy0816
Well, I was somewhat sarcastically referring to the Liver and Liver transplants, though there are other examples of human regeneration out there.
fiveworlds
though there are other examples of human regeneration out there. Skin regeneration. If the skin is not too damaged it will regenerate itself. Otherwise it scars. Some body tissues never regenerate cardiac muscle cells for example will only scar. MigL
Interesting read regarding HeLa cells. Thanks for the link, John. Is this a case of a cancer providing a useful ( not for Henrietta Laks unfortunately ) mutation at the cellular level ?
CharonY
Typically it is a deregulation of cellular processes. Regular tissue has tight control of cell growth. Once that is out of whack tumors and cancer are the consequence. In a way the cells revert to a earlier differentiation state where growth suppression is not active (to put it very crudely).
