elfmotat Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 (edited) Post your favorite stuff from viXra (or similar). I like this one, where the author solves two Millennium Prize problems in just five pages. I'm also a fan of this one, where the Goldbach conjecture is proven by induction in just two pages. (For those of you unaware, viXra is a pre-print archive similar to arXiv, except they have zero restrictions on who can post what. Whereas arXiv requires affiliation with a university or an endorsement from an established user of the site, and will reject obviously wrong papers (which is pretty much a bare minimum standard), with viXra everyone has free-reign! The results of this policy are entertaining, to say the least.) Edited October 31, 2014 by elfmotat 1
Strange Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 (edited) How about these: http://snarxiv.org/ The snarXiv is a random high-energy theory paper generator incorporating all the latest trends, entropic reasoning, and exciting moduli spaces. The arXiv is similar, but occasionally less random. http://davidsd.org/2010/03/the-snarxiv/ Edited October 31, 2014 by Strange

elfmotat Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 I stopped looking at viXra a while ago. Too many good ideas?

elfmotat Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 wrong you aren't told the number of students not allowed it could be 0. Well done.
fiveworlds Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 You do know you have a greater than 90% probability of guessing right
Strange Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Apparently I'm decent at their game too: I think I did no better than chance when I tried (not surprisingly).
elfmotat Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 You do know you have a greater than 90% probability of guessing right If you say so. I think I did no better than chance when I tried (not surprisingly). Whenever I saw the words "moduli" or "unparticle" I chose the other answer. snarXiv seems to like moduli spaces for some reason.

fiveworlds Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 If you say so. Well there is no dictation on how many of the hundred I allow into my dorms. I may pick 100 at random and if pairs disagree throw them out.

fiveworlds Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 I think you're on to something. Alternatively you could only keep 1 student. Therefore you never have incompatible pairs of students.
ajb Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 (edited) Too many good ideas? Exactly, I could not cope with all the mind blowing revolutionary ideas posted every day... Edited November 1, 2014 by ajb
