This is my new 75 gallon set up, old tank new rocks and bogwood. It contains pink lipped shiners, chubs, black banded sunfish and the yellow bullhead is seen exploring his new digs. I caught all the fish my self in my home state of NC.

Mine "aquariums" are: cloud chambers, and other one have several liters of Hydrogen (10 hours of electrolysis of water), and Deuterium for experiments..

You seem to have quite "traditional" usage for aquariums.

ps. Lovely fishes, Moontanmen.

ps2. You should show what happens when piece of bread is "appearing" in water.. :)

To be honest i doubt they would do much with bread, I feed them quite well on live food. After they figured out bread was edible they might eat it...

C'mon! I wanted to see them eating bread on video :)

I was thinking this week, what would happen if I would have two mouses/rats/hamsters separated by glass with little hole (too small to move freely), and one I would give plentiful of food, and other nothing.

Whether the one that has more would share with the one that is hungry..

And record it on video, and spread it on the Internet..

If one rat would share food with other hungry one, that don't know each other, to survive together, why humans don't do the same.. ?

Why humans in America became fat nation, and let African's children starving and die... ?

bread is not good for them.

I know that certain animals will share food in the way you suggest, not sure about rodents...

Yes. It would require checking several setups - animals that are family. Animals that are male-female. Animals that are male-male, female-female (unknown).

Hamster is pretty cheap here, just 4 usd per each. But what I would do with them after test? (I would kiss them, because they're so cute).. :)

You could buy a boa and feed them to it..

Nice setup Moontan. I had a grandpa in Nebraska that used to catch bullheads in gravel pits and he put the undersized ones in a big steel tank under his windmill. I can't remember what he fed them & not sure if they were yellow bullheads or what. Do you eat any of the fish you catch?

Americans feed more people outside of their own country than any other nation on Earth, though as a percentage of gross national income Norway ranks #1 and US is #20. Since Norway has no shortage of fat folk I don't think one can draw a legitimate correlation between obesity and charitable donations of food.

Do you know why fish don't get fat?

Because they eat fish. (courtesy Jerry Seinfeld)

Development aid is not the the same as feeding hungry people.. (read more about burning food in western countries to not ruin market, giving it for free. That ends up majority with out of date)

Helping became business these days. People are joining in, not because they want to help from the bottom of their heart, but because find it nice business opportunity. And/or a way to decrease their taxes..

I bet in these development aids there are also included (and have majority of share) f.e.:

- structural investment.. Government of country is giving public money to some company from the same country, for building f.e. power station, road, building in Africa. And their own citizens and company is earning that money..

It's sweep under the carpet as cheap loan to country, then that country immediately is paying bill for investment to company from the same country which gave loan.

- scholarships for students from foreign countries accounted to 3rd world. Government funds these people free education on western university. And gain money goes from public money to private universities in the same country..

I caught these fish for my aquarium but yes I do catch and eat fish, mostly from the ocean, fishing in the ocean has kind of spoiled me, I think they generally taste better than the freshwater fishes... The bullhead was about an inch long when I caught him, I use dip nets to catch them or seines. I go with the state fisheries people sometimes and my NANFA club.

I am wondering- what would happen if you would give them too much food at once, f.e. portion normally for whole week.

Would they eat everything all at once, or would leave something for later.. :)

They will eat until they are full and the rest will rot on the bottom...

Not all fish are like that, goldfish will eat as fast as it comes out the other end if allowed enough food.

Some of the chubs are spawning this evening, little buggers won't do it out where I can film them.

Put camera on tripod and let it record freely. They are feeling your presence.

Then you will find and edit in post processing software the best parts, and cut them away to separate parts.

I just record with my phone, afaik the phone has no place to fit it with a tripod. They like to spawn in hidden locations anyway, under bog wood or rocks is their natural behavior...

I picked up an attachment that socks into my tripod, and it has a couple of spring-loaded clamps that grab my phone and hold it steady. A must have if you're like me and the phone does everything except brush your teeth.

I'll have to check that out, was it pricey?

Mine's from Square Jellyfish, cost me $15. All it has to have is that tripod 1/4 20 thread mount, and hold the camera steady. Tripod does the rest.

You can make yourself a little sandbag or beanbag to support your camera for next to nothing. When you sew the sack, shape it to fit the camera, e.g. L-shaped sides might be better for a cell phone camera. If you use sand, choose a fine fabric that won't leak. These bag supports are easy to carry and also great for low shots outdoors where regular tripods often work poorly. :)

I love the yellow bullhead.

They have a very catfish look like a channel cat, blue cat, or brown bullhead, but in my opinion the way they swim is very bass/sunfish like.

How big do you expect that bullhead to get in that tank?

Hard to say really, maybe 12" or so, being confined does dwarf them a bit, he might be replaces by something a bit smaller if he gets aggressive but as long as he is feed regularly and his tank mates are too big to swallow he shouldn't be a problem. I am considering getting him a buddy and seeing if they will breed for me, not sure yet, probably get some redfin pickerels instead and a couple other larger predators.

When a fish swims, does that provoke some turbulence at the surface? If not, how is that possible?

If the fish is close to the surface it should, seeing it depends on the size of the fish and how close to the surface he is...

When swimming, a fish must displace some amount of water from front to behind, since water is incompressible. This movement must (I suppose) create some wave at the surface. The wave will be distributed according to the distance from the fish to the surface, as you said. Anyway, since there are a lot of fish in the sea, there should always be some waves even without any wind.

In your tank, when the fish are swimming, do you observe anything like that or is the surface perfectly calm?
