fiveworlds Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Does solar power work better or worse on the moon?
Strange Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Does solar power work better or worse on the moon? Why would mascons affect solar power?
Sensei Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Does solar power work better or worse on the moon? Moon doesn't have atmosphere. Earth would receive ~1367 W/m^2 if it wouldn't have atmosphere, with atmosphere energy reaching ground is ~1050 W/m^2. Moon would receive everything.
fiveworlds Posted November 6, 2014 Author Posted November 6, 2014 Moon would receive everything. Don't forget it has a slower rotation.
Strange Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Don't forget it has a slower rotation. And that will affect solar power because ... ?
fiveworlds Posted November 7, 2014 Author Posted November 7, 2014 And that will affect solar power because ... ? Night is longer.
Strange Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Night is longer. And so are the days. What do you think the net effect is?
Sensei Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 On Earth, 1050 W/m^2 is also energy per second per meter at cloudless noon. To calculate energy per whole day, it's long way.. You need to calculate calculus of graph, x axis time, and y axis power. Power is growing at sunrise, then maximum is at noon, and going to 0 at sunset. ps. I think this should be split to separate thread..
