andrewcellini Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 I'm going to be taking a concepts in biochemistry course, and I'm looking to prepare a little for it. What would be the best places to start? I'm primarily looking for supplementary books to the actual textbook (which I have yet to get), but any learning material would be great.
studiot Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 It's difficult to recommend older books as this is a rapidly developing subject but the following are good value Apps et al http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=apps+biochemistry Downes http://www.amazon.co.uk/chemistry-living-cells-Helen-Downes/dp/B0006AXMQS Stryer http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=stryer+biochemistry%23 Baldwin books. The nature of biochemistry is old but good. http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=baldwin+biochemistry&rh=n%3A266239%2Ck%3Abaldwin+biochemistry&ajr=1 Rose http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=baldwin+biochemistry&rh=n%3A266239%2Ck%3Abaldwin+biochemistry&ajr=1#/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=rose+chemistry+of+life&rh=n%3A266239%2Ck%3Arose+chemistry+of+life 1
imatfaal Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Lubert Stryer - that was my biochem text book at med school in the 80s. Good book - of our main texts it was the most accessible (aprt from good old solly zuckerman) 1
BabcockHall Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 For quick overviews, there are two books. One is PDQ Biochemistry, by Baker and Murray, and the other is Basic Concepts in Biochemistry, by Gilbert. 1
