physica Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 The time has come for me to propose my final year project. I can do a literature review or design a practical. The two subjects I am interested in are: Quantum Entanglement and Quantum Information Magnetic Imaging in Medicine Although I am interested I appreciate that others may know more about these fields. I'm also acknowledging that simple interest isn't going to cut it in terms of getting a good grade. Realistic projects are a must. Many thanks in advance
imatfaal Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Michel123 a few weeks ago posted a link to this research http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v461/n7266/pdf/nature08432.pdf- it is on the use of cooper pair as a source of entangled particles. (I cannot find the thread but I kept the link). You end up with one of each of a cooper pair in each of two single electron transistors - these remain entangled. It seems to me - in my wonderfully irresponsible ignorance - that with two spin entangled particles in a transistor system you have the very crudest start to something that could be a computational device. Show that it would be possible to measure this entangled pair after some form of quantum computational transform (Pauli-X or -Z would be neat, hadamard would be good, a full quantum fourier transform would be amazing).

Many thanks in advance I watched a video given at the Royal Institute by Jim Al Kahili, University Prof and Broadcaster in Quantum Physics. There are research opportunities in entanglement and quantum tunneling to do with micro miniature magnetic crystals in the eyes and beaks of Birds . they apparently use entanglement and quantum tunneling for 'seeing' and detecting where they are in the world using the earths magnetic field . sounds interesting . not many in the field .
