ajb Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 So I was wondering what people typically do to get through many years of schooling in this kind of situation. This may depend on where you are, but in the UK one would get a student load for undergraduate studies and a career development loan for MSc (if needed) and then the PhD should have funding either from the University itself, via some grant from a funding body or even industry, and universities have 'doctoral training accounts', again funded by a funding body but the university has freedom on who they fund and for what. For undergraduate studies a weekend job maybe possible. I know of people who also worked a few hours during the week, but they were not studying physics. I would have found it hard to work during the week myself, given the assignments, extra reading etc. You should seek local advice on this also.
