studiot Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 (HSO4- ) groups enter the crystal between the carbon planes, when graphite is treated with sulphuric acid in the presence of a strong oxidisaing agent. The product is known as blue graphite. When subsequently treated with water the graphite is reformed. An industrial process for the purification of graphite is based on this. The advertisers have got hold of the phrase blue graphite so googling this is unproductive. There are competing purification technologies, which can be found by googling graphite purification.
