petrushka.googol Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 String theory has literally opened up a can of worms with it's postulate that space-time is 11 dimensional ( 10 space + 1 time ). Why couldn't we have more than 1 dimension of time ? I don't see why that is not possible. Would that turn conventional physics on it's head?

There are some general arguments that make these theories not so easy to understand and some claim they rule out such things. You can find various articles and surveys on the arXiv discussing these things. String theory has literally opened up a can of worms with it's postulate that space-time is 11 dimensional ( 10 space + 1 time ). I would say that this is not exactly a postulate, but rather it is demanded by the consistency of the quantum (effective) theory of superstrings. Edited February 18, 2015 by ajb 1
