It appears Iam not at "full-speed" with the workings of Science Forums SwansonT and would never deliberately go off-topic or violate its' rules. If You feel this Post I made has gone off-topic please feel free to re-post it where ever is suitable to be further discussed.

Ironic, of course, since this is off-topic.

The rules:

I post a link to the rules with no small amount of frustration. It's one thing for a new member to be reminded of them, but (and you are not the only offender in this arena, to be sure — this is not directed solely at you) it's quite another for members of longer standing to try and plead ignorance.

Specifically, asking new, general questions in someone else's thread is an interruption of a discussion. In real life, this would be an interruption, and considered impolite. Likewise here, especially because we are not limited to a single, more-or-less linear conversation as we are IRL. It's trivial to open a new thread to ask questions or take a conversation in a different direction, and allow people to respond at their leisure and if they are interested, rather than having to talk around you if they want to continue the original conversation.

In general, the only questions you should be asking in a thread of someone else's (especially if they are making an assertion, rather than asking a question) is clarification of a response, and things directed at the thread starter. Do not use it as a springboard to launch your own discussion.
