Johno100 Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Hi I`m looking for a species from the Diantree rainforest QLD to write a 1000 word essay on , the essay must be on intraspecific competition and the chosen species , I need to be able to find journals to quote giving numerous examples of how this species competes with its own type. Thanks in Advance.
hypervalent_iodine Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 If you're after ideas for species, you're probably better off Googling it. I doubt there is anyone here with specific knowledge of what organisms inhabit it, unless Arete's previous work / knowledge extended to the Daintree.

Google gives all the species but next to nothing on intraspecific competition hence I came here , thanks anyway.

Surely figuring that out would be the point of you doing the assignment? Did you have a species in mind? What types of intraspecific competition do you know of that might apply? Are you familiar with how to perform a good literature search?

hypervalent_iodine Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Google scholar is a good start: https://scholar.google.com A simple keyword search ought to uncover some useful journal articles for you. Depending on licensing the institute you're doing this assignment through has, you may also be able to use something like Web of Science or the like. I'm not sure if there are ecology-specific search engines, but if so, they would be a good way to go as well. 1
Arete Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Look into the work of the Moritz lab. http://ib.berkeley.edu/labs/moritz/research/awt.html http://biology.anu.edu.au/research/labs/moritz-lab-evolutionary-biogeography-conservation Craig has done a ton of work on speciation and phylogeography in the Qld wet tropics, but has moved more into the monsoonal tropics and Kimberley of late. Species he's done a lot of work on in the wet tropics include Carlia lizards and various Littoria frog species. Devi Stuart Fox does some awesome intraspecific competition work, but I'm unsure if she's worked on wet tropics species. http://devistuartfox.com/research/ 2
