pziko Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 i do not have acetic anydride in my reach and want to do this reacytion 50 g phenylacetic acid, 25 g anhydrous sodium acetate and 850 ml acetic anhydride are refluxed with stirring under moisture protection for 40 h. wich produces phenylacetone. so wat other solvent is best to use, instead of acetic anydride.
John Cuthber Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 (edited) If someone used acetic anhydride they probably needed it. What do you want phenylacetone for (and why do you think it's difficult to get acetic anhydride)? Edited April 25, 2015 by John Cuthber
Sensei Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 i do not have acetic anydride in my reach Do you have ketene? H2C=C=O + CH3COOH -> (CH3CO)2O
hypervalent_iodine Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 The acetic anhydride isn't just a solvent in this case. It's rare that it would be there as a solvent only. I would also like to echo John Cuthber's question, though. What do you need to make a schedule II controlled substance for, or is it really as obvious as it seems?
John Cuthber Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Lets face it, anyone with a legitimate need for P2P can buy it (or buy acetic anhydride).
