akcapr Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 I ran out of copper sulphate, and want more. ANy easy ways to synthesize it? I think u could burn it with sulfur if im right, but that might leave me with some unusable charcoally black stuff if im correct... or am i?
ed84c Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 Copper + Sulphuric Acid. Or let it oxidise with SO2 (as u suggested).
ed84c Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 Mind you it is pretty cheap, why not have a look on ebay?
jdurg Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 Chances are that if you were to burn copper with sulfur you'd be more likely to wind up with copper sulfide (CuS) than you would copper sulfate (CuSO4).
H2SO4 Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 You could react some copper with H2SO4, but this would take along time, unless you have Cu powder, wool, or possibly foil. I just bough some copper sulfate from ebay. I bought it from a gardeners store on there, but it came as being 99 percent copper sulfate. Pretty good stuff and cheap for amount. Heres the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1269&item=3810468634&rd=1&ssPageName=WD1V
akcapr Posted March 25, 2005 Author Posted March 25, 2005 i tried it with h2so4 but it was really slow, burning would be impure. So i guees ill just buy it.
