GPS
To Whom This May Concern, I am trying to understand the article written by Yamanaka in 2007 that describes how he turned somatic cells into pluripotent stem cells. Unfortunately, my molecular book is not detailed enough, the internet is too vague, and there are many books on stem cell research out there, many which happen to be outdated. If someone could suggest a book (or a series of articles) on stem cell research (please not one that is political or religious) that gives good explanations, pictures, protocol, and is current, that would be most helpful. Price doesn't matter. I have access to a library for loans. Thank you! Sincerely, GPS Edited May 8, 2015 by GPS
Elite Engineer
I honestly dont know of any specific textbooks or sources you could read, but I can explain briefly the basics of what Yamanka did to induce pluripotent stem cells. -Yamanaka over-expressed certain genes (Yamanaka factors) in somatic cells to induce pluripotent activation. For example, "Oct4" and "Sox2" are transcription factors for maintaining pluripotent characteristics in the new;y altered cell. There's much more than this tho. Try wikipedia. ~ee
