joebloakes Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Hi Carol, I noticed you've submitted CYA as "see ya/you/." I also know it to mean "Cover Your Ass", as in getting a signature on a document to prove that your action is authorized. So the jargon between business colleagues who might suspect that some office intrigue is brewing is, "Don't just take their word for it, make sure and get your CYA." I believe this acronym started at IBM. Joebloakes

wayne_m Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 WBAGNFARB = Would be a good name for a rock band. We got a lot of use out of this on another forum I used to frequent.Example, someone mentions "Occam's razor." Occam's razor WBAGNFARB. They are obviously not the origins of the words.

They are obviously not the origins of the words. Not always humorous or even intended to be. I knew a Ghanaian once and Backronyms were almost cultural - every politician, country, sin, virtue he could list of the Backronym. He was especially proud of those that worked in both English (which he spoke beautifully) and his mother tongue the name of which I have forgotten. God Has Appointed Nakruma Already - is claimed by many to be the root of the country's name; by others as a backronym

Velocity_Boy Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 (edited) I'll offer one I learned when I used to do tech support for a large national ISP. "PBK" this means that the problem the client called us about was not really one with his service, or his pc. But rather, was due to his own mistakes or ignorance on the issue. IOW: operator error. I PBK stands for "problem behind keyboard." we would actually use this acro on our log books. LOL Edited March 16, 2017 by Velocity_Boy
