We have benedict n fehling as the default tests for sugars in most chemical analysis....however these tests are actually detecting only the aldehyde group in the sugars....

Technically we are just detecting aldehyde n not a sugar

Isnt there any other more specific testing procedure for sugars ??? What about caramelization test in addition to aldehydic group test??

Caramelizing doesn't help much- vitamin c caramelises- but it isn't a sugar.

The basic problem is that "sugar" covers a range of different substances and getting a test that includes them all, but excludes other chemicals would be impossible.

But in order to test fir the basic chemical nature of a substance as sugar cant we go thru a benedict test to determine aldehyde group followed by caramelization?

It IS, however a ketone. But the arising issue here is while sugars are hydroxycarbonyl molecules, hydroxycarbonyl molecules don't have to be sugars.

Not all sugars are aldehydes.

For example, fructose is not an aldehyde.

But sugar like fructose do give +ve for benedict due to the hemiketal group

Benedict test will also be shown by ketose sugars though ... So benedict is not an issue, just benedict is !

It is not evil since it's simply comprised out of 2 natural aminoacids and a tiny bit of methanol, for which you need to eat 10s of grams of sweetener of to reach the same levels as found in a single apple.

I think you should learn to spell it correctly.

You should learn to spell "it's" correctly too.

Also, since it's not a sugar, it has nothing to do with the thread, so perhaps you should learn how the forum works while you are at it.
