Interesting, and also a good reason to check that you have a shortage before taking serious measures to increase your intake.

Indeed and would always suggest that. I think I read you have to be more careful with D2 than D3 wrt to overdosing.

yes. no need D2, even D3 which is too strong and too much. D1 is quite enough for normal people.

Vitamin D or D1 is the other two mixed together; this is the original compound but it was discovered that it is two compounds. D3 is the recommended one because it's utilised more easily by the body; it requires fewer steps, amongst several other good reasons
