Wat is your favorite chemicals reaction/demo/etc.? (poll)

I like to extract and purify oils/fats from plants.

But the one reaction that changed my path from biology to chemistry is the reaction of Na + Cl --> NaCl. It looks disturbing knowing the value of sodium chloride in the body.

If you'd like, I could put some anhydrous acetic acid on your skin. ;) It wouldn't feel that good at all. At high concentrations, it's still pretty potent. (Like phosphoric acid is).

One of the best has got to be the Belousov Zhabotinsky reaction or BZR.

You've got about 40 repeating chemical reactions going there forming a chemical oscillator, lasting about an hour or so.

This thing is cool. Here is a link ;BZR reaction

oh btw ed, have you ever seen HF+Rb react?

It's unlikely but not impossible, but there are many videos of such experiments that can be found on the internet and resource CDs.

Browse around that site, there's some good stuff... a lot is on the CD which you have to buy, the stuff you can view is mainly just advertising the CD, but it's still good.

That's the main one I know, my school seem to have got the CD, although I can't access it (teachers only), I'll see what I can do, I might be able to "borrow" some of the clips if they are in individual files that I can get to ;).

I just tried google, doesn't seem to help a lot, worth a try though.
