grayfalcon89 Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 I'll take chemistry next year and hopefully, it's bit more fun than biology now because even biology is okay, I would hope chemistry is little bit better since a lot of math is involved. But I don't know any of the competition of chemistry. I heard of USA Physics Team or AMC (American Mathematics Competition) for math but what about chemistry? If anyone knows about it, please post here so I can know about it. Thank you!
budullewraagh Posted April 3, 2005 Posted April 3, 2005 there is the international chemistry olympiad, but the regionals have already passed. it's easy to qualify for nationals, but then impossible to go any farther. you take another exam and if you are in the top 20, you go to chem boot camp for a week or two, and if youre in the top 4 there, you represent the us in germany or wherever they are holding it. the thing is, you have no idea how you placed unless you are in the top 20, and unless you have taken BC calc, AP physics and AP chem (which they ask you about) you wont be selected, even if you somehow manage to get a perfect score, which is also almost impossible considering the advanced knowledge of physics, chemistry and mathematics you need to know
Algebracus Posted April 3, 2005 Posted April 3, 2005 If you had been from Norway, then everything had been easier. First you go through a couple of highly elementary stuff, and then the final awaits. If you then are as lucky as I am, you get a high score, win or rank among the top three in as many subjects you like, and suddenly the problem is not to qualify for an olympiad, but to find out which olympiad attracts you the most.
