Wanted to showcase some of the more interesting things that I've been doing and seeing lately.

Day 0

As close as I could come. Honestly. Any monuments I make, pay for, take part in planning, etc. will all have a well defined FRONT.

Stone Guide

Interesting and mysterious monument. Featured on the show, "Monumental Mysteries" here. Family happened to be vacationing in the area and I thought it worth a look.

Day -2:

Looking Backwards

Kayaked over to Andersonville Island, location of an old(for US :) ) ghost town in the area. Whole area was flooded with the construction of the Hartwell Dam.

Can still see the old road beds in several locations. Fairly narrow and more linear than what you would expect to see naturally.

Brick photobomb

Didn't see any ruins in the area, I think most of them are underwater now.

Watched these guys fish for most of the time I was there.

Heading back across the way. Round trip was about 3.2 miles(5.1 km). Pretty decent for exploration. You neither have to trek overland nor worry about it being on private property.

Day π:

Hartwell business and organizations put up scarecrows for the season. Great to see the community spirit.

Family went Zip-lining to wrap up the trip. Great fun, really recommend it if you ever get the chance.

On the way back: Tree that Owns Itself

FOR AND IN CONSIDERATION
OF THE GREAT LOVE I BEAR
THIS TREE AND THE GREAT DESIRE
I HAVE FOR ITS PROTECTION
FOR ALL TIME, I CONVEY ENTIRE
POSSESSION OF ITSELF AND
ALL LAND WITHIN EIGHT FEET
OF THE TREE ON ALL SIDES
WILLIAM H. JACKSON

Not entirely factual, but story is that the Tree(now its descendant) owns the land it is on. Google recommended visiting it via search(and it alone). Figured one should do what Googlebot tells you. :)

...and that's a wrap. Been meaning to finish this up for a few days, just took a bit to get back into the swing of things at home. Hope you've enjoyed reading along.
