Excellent points. It took me a long time to understand that science is about a method of knowing things, not the things we know. That understanding brought enhanced value to what I did know.

More than half a century on I remember the 'list of ingredients' format:

 

"You will require

 

1 Thunderstorm

1 Watch with second hand"
