Asimov Pupil Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 I just heard that the pope's casket's are wood around Zinc. isn't Zn a good Reduction agent so won't it corrode fast? Thank you
coquina Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 I just heard that the pope's casket's are wood around Zinc. isn't Zn a good Reduction agent so won't it corrode fast? Thank you The inside casket is lead according to what I saw on TV.
BenSon Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 When i read the title the this thread i had no idea what to expect i mean pope=zinc? Anyway i heard on the TV that they put him in a pine box then that goes into a lead box then that goes into a oak box let stand for a few minute and there you have it perfectly cooked pope...Just wait what was the question again? ~Scott
budullewraagh Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 zinc is a reasonably good reducing agent, so it should oxidize and thus corrode quite easily
H2SO4 Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 who would want to be in a partialy lead casket, isnt lead like the bottom of the crap, poor, metals? If i was the pope i would want a partialy copper casket that would be friggen awesome.
akcapr Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 galvanized nail are zinc plated so they wount/shouldnt corrode, if Zn corrodes fast, why galvanize nails?
ed84c Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 I feel sorry for the guys that have to parade him around, lead and all.
BenSon Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 galvanized nail are zinc plated so they wount/shouldnt corrode, if Zn corrodes fast, why galvanize nails? While Zinc may corrode quickly it forms an impervious oxide layer so once the first layer oxidises wich is pretty quick, it dosen't go through to the steel. ~Scott
atinymonkey Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 I think it's just a simple cheap coffin, to show the mans humility even in death.
H2SO4 Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 dont galvanized things utilize cathodic protection also?
