leif3141 Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I'm soon to be graduating with my computer science degree and wanted to ask some people who work in the field of development a question, particularly if you are employer for a larger corporation. Before I started my education I was in the armed forces where I was charged, but not convicted of larceny as the charges were dismissed via a form of discharge I accepted. It has been 12 years since that happened and I have not had any negative legal matters since, along with a good credit/work history. However, were a business to require a fingerprint background check, they would see the charges. Are positions that are open in insurance, banking, non-profit organizations going to require a fingerprint background check? Technically I would have to say yes to an arrest if it were asked, but no to a conviction. I feel that I would still be prejudiced against if the issue comes up and might have a hard time getting in a job. Can anyone offer any advice or if they know firsthand from being a developer, or suggest routes to look for start-up companies rather than large corporations? Thank you for any help you can provide!
