koolman Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 A piston of mass M = 3kg and radius R = 4cm has a hole into which a thin pipe of radius r = 1cm is inserted. The piston can enter a cylinder tightly and without friction, and initially it is at the bottom of the cylinder. 750gm of water is now poured into the pipe so that the piston & pipe are lifted up as shown. Find the height H of water in the cylinder and height h of water in the pipe.
studiot Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 (edited) as shown. ? Does this also show how the water gets under the piston to lift it? Edited December 14, 2015 by studiot

Bignose Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 So. This forum doesn't do your work for you. What have you tried? What equations to do you know that may be applicable? What assumptions do you think you need to make? We'll help you out, but you need to demonstrate the work you've done and we'll help guide or correct you as necessary.
