Hi All,

I have been give a project, to formulate new Corrosion Inhibitor which consist of Immidazoline, Sodium Thiogylcolate and Acetic Acid.

My question is, how can I produce on my own, Sodium Thioglycolate, since my lab only have Thioglycolic Acid. Please advise if any of you experts know.

Typically if you have NaOH and acid H-R, after reaction they give Na-R and H2O..

Isn't the same with this compound?

This would be how I would do it. The pKa of the acid is around 3.8, so NaOH should be sufficient.

Hi hypervalent_iodine and Sensei. Thanks for the response. I think, this method is possible to be done. However, how about the percentage of NaOH in Thioglycolic Acid? Do i know need to do titration?
