Hi,

 

New here and I have an idea I would like to share with those who would know better.

 

The idea is to fill clear silicone rubber balloons with Helium and put them in my High Tunnel.

 

The hoped for result would be as the sun shines on the balloons during the day the balloons would absorb heat and stay at the roof of the High Tunnel, and as the temperatures dipped at night the balloons would fall down bringing the warmth from the stored heat with them.

 

Just an idea!

 

I have found out that theoretically heating a Helium Balloon will make it rise, and cooling a helium balloon will make it fall. Also helium is a good heat conductor. Other balloon materials or gasses might work better?

 

In essence the idea is to keep the hot air stored at the top of the High Tunnel during the day and for that heat to disperse itself at near ground level when the temperature falls.

You're contradicting yourself. You need helium balloons to fall in order to transfer the stored heat to your high tunnel, but in order to fall they would need to lose all stored heat. Do you see the problem with this arrangement?

 

Also, helium balloons won't drop down. Densities are too different: air (at sea level) - 1.3 kg/m3, helium - 0.178 kg/m3.
