Xalatan Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 As far as I know no genes have been proven to relate to Asperger's, but is there a hereditary component to the syndrome? Around 70% is related to comorbid MR and it makes one wonder about organic and genetic (and perinatal) causes.
iNow Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 We don't yet know for certain, but are pretty confident that there is some genetic component. http://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condition/asperger-syndrome
Sirona Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Twin and sibling studies on ASD suggest that it does have a high hereditary component, however, in most cases the group studies show that the parents of ASD are usually not autistic. Fraternal twins also seem to be much lower at risk than identical.
