SimonFunnell Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I am interested in the following information so I can study further, what is the history of dark 'stuff'? What I mean by this is, to the best of my knowledge there is dark matter, dark energy and dark flow. When and how did these come about exactly please? Did they come about together or did one follow the other? Thanks.
Mordred Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 (edited) The dark simply revers to something we don't completely understand. Each of the three has its own history. They are rather unrelated to the other. Edited April 2, 2016 by Mordred
mathematic Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_matter Above also has links to dark energy and dark flow.
Delta1212 Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Dark matter is called 'dark' matter because there seems to be mass exerting a gravitational influence on the matter we can see that isn't accounted for by the matter we can see. It is hypothesized that there is some form of matter that does not interact with the electromagnetic spectrum (I.e. 'Light') in the way that normal matter does, hence 'dark matter.' Beyond that, we don't know a whole lot about it The rest of the 'dark stuff' got slapped with the same label mostly because, like dark matter, they are placeholder names for the source of effects that we currently can't account for without there being "something else" that we don't much about except that it is apparently causing an effect that we can't otherwise explain. Aside from a relative dearth of knowledge about them and the 'dark' name, it's unlikely that they have anything in particular to do with each other.
