Does the type of metal used in the wire wrappings have an effect on the field created? Example: would a pure platinum wire have an effect differing fromnusing copper wire?

No. The field from a current depends only on the value of the current in the same geometry.

 

The choice of metal can affect the current, though

I suppose if you want to make an 'air core' winding and you make it with iron wire instead of copper wire, you might see some difference (but then, I suppose, this should not be classified as an air core winding because iron is ferromagnetic - however this would be a bad design of a winding).
