holdensteady Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 I'm planning to conduct experiments in tire pyrolysis to produce small particle carbon for use in other projects. I'd like to hear ideas for the best, cost-effective catalysts to use in the experiments. The plan calls for using various, phased pressure and heat levels. Thanks in advance!
Enthalpy Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Welcome, holdensteady! The cheapest way is to burn the tyres. The thick black smoke is carbon in small particles. Partly because tyres are produced with a load of carbon black, and partly because the combustion makes soot. You know that carbon black is widely available and cheap?
Enthalpy Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Meanwhile a giant deposit for used tyres has burnt in Spain. It made smoke.
