Elite Engineer Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Trying to synthesize nitric acid, but I only have a distillation kit with a rubber stopper..would this be an issue? I've heard NA under 80% isn't that bad, but experience is far more valued. ~EE
John Cuthber Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 If you don't have the right kit you shouldn't be trying to distil nitric acid. If you don't have the right knowledge you shouldn't be trying to distil nitric acid.
Elite Engineer Posted May 11, 2016 Author Posted May 11, 2016 I've distilled it before, but with an all glass distillation kit...never with rubber stoppers.
Enthalpy Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Nor is "rubber" accurate enough. Dozens of formulations exist, of very different nature and origin. Most are seriously reactive, especially to oxidizers.
