Shading ocean surface as a fishing technique...

If I understood well, there is some sort of large? floating? film? placed on the sea surface of marine reserves, where fishing is not allowed.

Fish congregate under these by whatever reason they prefer, and when these 'umbrellas' -or parasols- drift outside of the protected zones, fishing fleets do their feast.

Clever, and will not extend comments beyond that.

Has anyone heard of such or know details about the technique / item put to float ?

I do know that fish will hang out under a floating object in the ocean, trolling past will usually get a hit but I haven't heard of protecting areas with a floating film. In fact I would say that a large floating object would stop the growth of things like coral and seaweed on the bottom and hurt the productivity of the area...

Hi.

Since the original post, related to an article in Spanish (if someone wants it, ask) , found English terminology for the technique, and additional information.

And the 'parasols' are placed on purpose by fishing fleets to further reap the seas after they have drifted away, not to protect reserves. And it is not a new thing.
