Two bio question

This is pretty simple questions but I can't think of a word to describe it.

 

1. What appears on the underside of fronds as a brown spot; a clump of sporangia.

 

I'm guessing it's sori but is word "sori" singular or plural? Or am I off the track?

 

2. A new born baby, literally.

 

? I have no idea on this. It's 7 word and I so far got:

 

n _ _ n _ t _. But not sure what to put between them.
