normal to feel anxious/guilty from using filters on facebook pics? is this normal/understandable?

hi everyone,

 

currently I do not have a facebook account but sometimes I contemplate the idea of making one.

only problem is sometimes the thought of meticulously taking pictures, filtering/editing/photoshoping them and uploading them makes me feel guilty as if I am deceiving the world and making others feel bad about their looks etc. or things they don't have.

do you use facebook? if so, do you use filters?

how do you use facebook properly so as to cause less frictions between your "friends"?

do you only add people you know really well or acquaintances as well? is it best to add many friends or not so many?

do you post your political views?

what sort of things do you post on this social network?

Why do people put makeup on?

 

I think it's perfectly ok to alter lighting effects to flatter ones tone or make the overall light balance look more natural; under cloudy skys or in the shade skin tone can look too blue in an image even if it looked ok in camera. You may have a zit or other temporary problem which I think it is perfectly ok to remove post-capture.

 

I endeavour to manipulate pictures to what I think I saw if I want to be truthful to the scene or person , as I saw it/them. The camera doesn't 'see' how you do, so, you have make it 'see' your way or do it post-capture.

 

I would draw the line at radical structural or colour changes; that would be dishonest in a social context, like Facebook.

I do not doctor the pictures I place in my albums if that is what you mean? Not that I put many pictures of myself online.

I add some acquaintances such as people from my high school. I also add some professional acquaintance.

No idea. Some people have a huge number of friends, while other not.

A little... but not too much. Again, I would not post anything that I would not say in public.

A mixture of some personal stuff and some professional stuff; sometimes links to news items, my papers, a few photos from trips, anything funny or interesting. The key is not to post anything that either group would find offensive.

Yes. Personally, I would keep it to close friends, family, professional. I would avoid FB pages that are of a social nature where people have a common hobby interest or pursuit; they can be particularly bitchy places.

 

As just mentioned: NEVER air your dirty laundry on FB; it will be recorded forever for posterity; 'juicy' stuff gets shared and it's out of your control once that happens.

 

I personally think it's a sh-hole but my "friend" base was too wide in retrospect; I was in the angling fraternity and the nature of my position meant I had to be open to everyone, which is now history.

Even if somebody does not put sex-tape etc. on fb, but makes and keeps them locally, on mobile, or desktop,

machine could be compromised, and all secrets uploaded to websites, like this happened with couple Hollywood stars and celebrities.

Revealing such compromising stuff, could be used in far future for blackmailing person, if their "help" will be needed and they started carrier in f.e. politics or business.

I was disowned by a family member due to my facebook posts, now a family feud is coming to a head simply because I do not drink the koolaid of religion.

 

Now either they hate me or are trying to drag me back into the fold, facebook can be a bitch...

Lighting is one thing. That doesn't really fool anyone. Even airbrushing is pretty common these days.

 

I was thinking in terms of swapping out your car for a Porsche, or anything along those lines.

If that pulls your quarry go for it. More fool them for being so materialistic and shallow.
