Miadora Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 I've been collecting these without knowing what they are, and I think it's time to find out. They are inside rocks, and very common. The red ones break easily. Pictures in attached files.
studiot Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 I'd like a closer view, but try garnet if they are indeed crystalline. https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en-GB&source=hp&biw=&bih=&q=garnet&gbv=2&oq=garnet&gs_l=heirloom-hp.3..0l10.1083.4067.0.4937.8.7.1.0.0.0.137.671.6j1.7.0....0...1ac.1.34.heirloom-hp..0.8.693.JKU-Tp15PTw https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garnet Can you give us some more details about their location? You can pick this sort of mineral out of the side of the river South Esk gorge in Angus, Scotland.
Miadora Posted June 28, 2016 Author Posted June 28, 2016 My phone wont focus any closer than this. I've found the red ones mainly by the sea. It's been a while since I've found any small black ones so I don't really remember where. The mountain maybe? I live in Norway
pavelcherepan Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 (edited) Hard to see really, but I'd say it looks a lot like garnet almandine. What kind of rock formations did you get it from? Edited July 11, 2016 by pavelcherepan
