Yvtq8k3n Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 As u may know, dragon exist in the mitologie for so long, but it is possible to exist an animail that throw fire like dragons? I was thinking and I found an possible gas that the animails could produce to be the fuel. (Saddly it is farts, was the only gas that animals could produce that i could remenber and is viable). The second is what will start the fire, guess what, i have no ideia. I cant find anything related to the way that fire starts only what is required on a fire to stay on. However i was thinking something related whit producing eletricity, in order to start the fire. Lets see where this goes.
fiveworlds Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 (edited) Well the dragon could probably light the gas through autoignition where the dragon would place pressure on the gas with its' muscles. Forcing large amounts of gas through already lit gas would allow the animal to breathe fire. The main inconsistency here with the modern idea of a dragon is that it would need to eat a lot of plants and probably be a herbivore using the ability to breathe fire to scare off predators. It would be closer to a cow than a scary sheep eating predator. Edited July 2, 2016 by fiveworlds

ajb Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 But after all what is autoignition?? Think diesel engine vs petrol engine.
Yvtq8k3n Posted July 3, 2016 Author Posted July 3, 2016 (edited) Think diesel engine vs petrol engine. That maybe an amazing answer however im not an fan of cars so it means nothing to me;( Could u try exlplain what is it? Or if u cant, try to explain what makes auto-ingnition occur. In a diesel engine the fuel is pushed through a thin nozzle and as it does so it is heated up due to compression. The fuel is heated enough in this way so that it combusts. (Okay, some diesel engines also heat the fuel first, but you get the point) 1
Moontanman Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 There is a beetle that, on a small scale, does a pretty good imitation of a dragon although the fire comes out of it's anus...
ajb Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 ... although the fire comes out of it's anus... Reminds me of the time the curry house sent us a free vindaloo with our meal, but that is another story. 1

ajb Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Thanks No problem... so one idea could be that a dragon would do something similar either with methane or hydrogen gas. But then as we don't have any dragons to study who knows?

I just told that may be an possibility it doesnt have to be that, it was just an kind of example, dont take it so personal. It can also be hidrogene, like i said is just an tougth.
