Robert Wiczynski Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 My friend proposed a element to me. He did not say where the electrons and nucleons are placed but hes asked if an element with 2 protons 1 neutron and 13 electrons is possible, I'm not sure though. I will also ask him for a picture.
Strange Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 No. An atom always has the same number of protons and electrons.
swansont Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 You're proposing an ion of He-3. While you can have negative ions in some atoms, they tends to be heavier (more protons), and I suspect getting more than one or two extra electrons bound to the atom isn't going to be energetically favorable.
