Much like you think of EM waves taking values at (x,y,z) but depending on t? Gravitational waves? They are not special in this sense - you write h(ct, x, y, z) and this satisfies the 3+1 d wave equation. But then so does EM radiation. Edited August 3, 2016 by ajb
MigL Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Do you maybe mean polarization. Such as an EM wave being polarized in two directions perpendicular to its direction of travel, but that third polarization direction being forbidden ?
