EdEarl Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 (edited) To me this is news, but it isn't new. Don't know where to post this thread. WikipediaFANUC, the Japanese robotics company, has been operating a "lights out" factory for robots since 2001.[5] Robots are building other robots at a rate of about 50 per 24-hour shift and can run unsupervised for as long as 30 days at a time. "Not only is it lights-out," says Fanuc vice president Gary Zywiol, "we turn off the air conditioning and heat too." This factory is, I think, one of the first; more are being made. 50 units/day*365 days/yr=18,250 units/yr 2001 to 2016 is 15 years 18,250 units/yr * 15 yr = 273,750 units Edited August 7, 2016 by EdEarl
