deep0199 Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 Can anyone suggest a titration (or other experiment) to measure the acidity of orange juice? The main problem that I'm faced with is that using an indicator, it is hard to notice the colour change since the orange juice itself is coloured. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
akcapr Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 if u are testing the ph (acidity) why not use ph paper?!!?! titration would be quite difficult since the acid is pretty dilute. If you had to use titration then i would say ur only chance is to use a fairly bright indicator, or consantly test the ph after every drip- it would greatly help to have a ph meter for that. also, the meter would be more acurate than the normal titration, but if you would be using PH papers to see the PH in titration , why not just use it at the beginning?
Primarygun Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 Don't use methyl orange as it is red in colour in acidic solution.
akcapr Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 also, with titration u would find the molarity of the acid; not quite the acidity or Ph. if u knew the molarity of conc. citric acid tho i guess u could find the acidity compared to conc. citric acid.
deep0199 Posted May 1, 2005 Author Posted May 1, 2005 Thanks for your replies...I guess titration is not the reccomended solution.
BenSon Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 yeah its easy to determine the Ph if you have the molarity
