markosheehan Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 a uniform rod has length 6l and mass m. an axis is a distance l from the end perpendicular to the length of the rod . find the moment of inertia of the rod about this axis. can some1 show me how to find this.
Endy0816 Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Hyperphysics has formulas if that helps any: http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/mi.html If you could clarify your values, that would help in providing a response. We can guess, but don't want to steer you wrong.
imatfaal Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Two hints 1. Always draw a diagram - this helps you make sure you have it in your head straight and even if you have it wrong it might well demonstrate to your teacher / marker that you understood the methodology but got confused in the question. Diagrams are just a must in these sorts of questions - they do not have to be to scale or works of art. 2. You will also need the Parallel Axis Theorem in addition to the link that Endy has provided.
