Molotov Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 Why exactly are nitric oxide fumes harmful to the human body? How long does one have to be exposed to get injured?
Phi for All Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 Nitric oxide forms acids in the lungs which can result in depleted oxygen in the bloodstream. Anything which produces a cyanotic effect can cause you to lose consciousness, which could be deadly. http://www.scottecatalog.com/msds.nsf/0/b927b583ca65f50585256a0a004e1b66?OpenDocument
budullewraagh Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 nitric oxide is a vasodilator. it readily oxidizes to NO2/N2O4 at equilibrium at STP, and in the body oxidizes as well, and tends to hydrolyze
