John Cuthber Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Why not just keep it until you find a use for it?
drmacro Posted October 24, 2016 Author Posted October 24, 2016 Well, I've kept it so long waiting to find a use for it that it has begun eating through the plastic containers it was shipped in.
BabcockHall Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Can you donate to someone? It is possible to use in the production of biodiesel, for example.
Sensei Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 (edited) Hi, I have a couple pounds of potassium hydroxide that I need to dispose of safely. I have basic DIY safety equipment and outdoor spaces. How should I proceed? KOH reacts with CO2 from air creating K2CO3 and KHCO3. If you will have it in solution, with ready access of air (attach air pump for aquarium, if you want to accelerate it), it will happen spontaneously. Do you have it in solution or solid? If it's solid, keep it in hermetic container (it catches water and carbon dioxide from air). If it's in solution, you can boil entire water, to turn it to solid, and keep this way. Well, I've kept it so long waiting to find a use for it that it has begun eating through the plastic containers it was shipped in. Did you try making auction on f.e. eBay?
